IN AN INVERSE SENSE, he was somewhat like the housewife, her arms loaded with packages, who got aboard a bus with her five-year-old daughter. The little girl handed the driver the two fares and then, feeling that some explanation was necessary, said in a clear, strong voice, "I'm paying the fare today because my mother is loaded."
