I sobered up in a large metropolitan area, where an emphasis is put on giving an entertaining talk. Recently, I moved to a small logging and ranching community. At my first meeting, I gave a fairly humble talk with a modest blend of irony, wit, paradox, esoteric insights. The reaction, however, was shocking! They didn't laugh once at my humorous remarks, nor did they seem to understand any of my profound comments.
