HAVING A Ph.D. in psychology, being a professor and a college dean, these were no protection from alcoholism. In fact, they were handicaps to recovery in AA. A lifelong reliance upon brainpower nearly prevented me from learning what I needed to know: how to live simply and soberly in the Fellowship of AA.
