The Gift of Sobriety

MY LIFE is full and I am very busy living these days, and sometimes I forget the miracle of sobriety. I speak at AA meetings and recall my story, but today I experienced the full impact of what my drinking was like. I happened to go to a grocery store near my home. I don't visit it often, but it carries a special kind of bread that my husband likes, so I went that way this morning. Next door is the liquor store. My heart gave a lurch as I remembered the leaden misery of the days when I frequented that store.
