Tough Love

WHEN I ARRIVED at the door of Alcoholics Anonymous seven and a half years ago, I was extremely fortunate in having offered to me the strict compassion, the disciplined love, and the total honesty that I so desperately needed. I was barely into my thirties, a frightened, pathetic woman, and, although I was unaware of it at the time, as miserably alcoholic as I would ever need to be again.
