Complacency

Early in my sobriety, a longtime member scolded me after a meeting in which I had said how comfortable I was feeling. "Comfort is the road to complacency, and that can lead to a drink," he warned. I wasn't impressed. Today, four years later, I find myself with a decent-paying job, a nice apartment, and a belt that strains around a growing waistline. On meeting nights, I have caught myself checking the TV schedule before deciding what to do. It makes me think.
