IN THE FALL in northern Michigan, we are hit once every decade or so by a sudden freak blizzard. A local drunk expected no such weather when he set out on a fine October Saturday for his cabin in the woods, taking along several cases each of whiskey and beer to stock the camp for himself and friends for the upcoming weeks of deer hunting.
