Us Versus Them
IN MY YEARS of sobriety, I find that there seems to have been a subtle change within the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. More and more, I find myself reading the Big Book; less and less, listening to fellow AA members. When I do listen to them, I hear such comments as "I am selfish because of my alcoholic personality" or "No wonder I try to run the show--I have an alcoholic personality," on and on and on, ad nauseam. The comments seem to add up to a great deal of "us versus them" conversations: " 'They' don't have to contend with having an alcoholic personality," etc.
