DURING MY first days in AA, I was advised to "just believe"--to cultivate a kind of childish naivete until I could fully accept, from my own experience, that the program, with its Steps, slogans, and suggestions, really worked. Fortunately, I was able to do that. To me, it was a total faith in something outside myself, and I hadn't felt that in many years.
