For years, any information in books or news media that pertained to alcoholism went right over my head. The ax finally descended, and I was committed to a center (voluntarily, of course--ha!). Many aspects of our disease were explained, but the troublesome questions still remained with me when I was released. Never one to question why, I did not ask.
