"Don't make any major changes during the first year." I heard this suggestion several times during my early months in AA. Now, after having celebrated one year, I can certainly understand it. I thank my Higher Power that my place of residence, job, marital status, and family situation remained relatively stable, because I wasn't! There were so many changes taking place inside this alcoholic during the first year that they were just enough for me to handle.
