In 1972, yearning for relief from the problems caused by my drinking, I called AA. When, after ninety meetings in ninety days, I still questioned being a candidate for membership, my sponsor suggested I try some controlled drinking. This "controlled" drinking lasted about, fourteen months and damn near killed me.
