When We See Ourselves Clearly

Self-acceptance and a desire to become what we could be are vital steps on the road to recovery

PROFESSIONALS have determined that the alcoholic is his own worst enemy, that he lacks self-esteem and a sense of self-worth. From my own experience, I don't disagree with that assessment--as far as it goes. Before coming to AA, I knew I was no damn good, unfit to sit at anyone's table, of no use to anyone. I expressed this belief by nearly drowning myself in a sea of alcohol and making a couple of suicide attempts.
