Debt-paying--the AA way

Twenty-five years ago, when I was barely out of my teens, I made a train trip from New York to Chicago. It was a long, tiring ride, and when I reached the Union Station, I was exhausted. I was struggling with my purse and large suitcase when a girl approached me through the crowd. She said, "Let me carry that for you," and she reached for my bag. My first impulse was to walk away and continue to handle my burden by myself. But I didn't. I handed her my case, and we walked across the waiting room together. We stopped for a cup of coffee and talked about our trips and our families.
