I had been without a drink for six years, and I had read and reread the Big Book. I had read As Bill Sees It and gotten over many a hump with its help. I had read the "Twelve and Twelve" and attended many Step and study sessions. I had even been known to speak knowledgeably about our program, as well as about Jung and William James. And yet, just six weeks ago, I was again contemplating suicide in a fit of self-pity.
