I WAS six weeks sober when I first met "Wee Billy." At that time, I was very unsure of myself and filled with doubt. This AA was not for me, and it would be only a matter of time before I went back to drinking again, I thought. I believe it was a power greater than myself that brought Billy and me together. It had to be, because otherwise I would never, ever have had anything to do with him. He was a bitter, cynical AA member and a complete show-off; but he hadn't had a drink in over three years, and he was quite prepared to spend time with me so that I wouldn't drink, either.
