At the age of twenty-nine, when his father kicked him out, he had his first

AT THE AGE of twenty-nine, when all should have been coming up roses, I hit a rock bottom of spiritual emptiness--mental, social, and moral. I was an atheist; I couldn't think (my attention span was about five minutes); I had no friends; and I was a thief and a liar. At the time, I did not know that these conditions were spin-offs of a disease called alcoholism that had engulfed me.
