Start Simple
THERE WAS hardly a day when fear in some form was not undermining my life. Early in my youth, I was introduced to alcohol. From the start, we became the best of friends. There is an old saying that small plants won't grow in the shade of big trees. For me, alcohol was a big tree. It shaded me from all kinds of fear and embarrassment. With it, I was able to escape boredom, criticism, a sense of failure. But like the small plant, I didn't grow up at all.
