My Last Hope

He came to AA for one reason only

WHEN I CAME to AA, I did so voluntarily--but only because I believed it was my last hope. I did not come because of my wife and children; I had made promises to them and failed too many times before. I did not come because an employer threatened to fire me, although I certainly deserved it. I did not come because a judge ordered me, although it could have happened. I didn't come because a psychiatrist recommended it, although he should have. I didn't even come to stop drinking, because I had done that on my own many times. I came through those doors for only one reason--to get the help I had to have to keep from picking up that first drink.
