Once Over Lightly

HE WAS IN THE SAME SHAPE as a woman alcoholic that G. R. of Minnesota wrote about. She was a cultured, intelligent person, whose drinking had progressed to a point where she had shakes that registered about seven on the Richter scale. She couldn't drink from a glass, because she spilled the booze before it reached her mouth. She was afraid to drink from the bottle, because the top rattled against her teeth and might chip them.
