In Memoriam

Henrietta Seiberling dies, December 1979, at the age of 91

In 1935, in Akron, Ohio, Bill W. made his crucial decision to try to carry the message rather than to pick up a drink. He was put in touch with Henrietta Seiberling, who, although not herself an alcoholic, had been trying to help Dr. Bob get sober. She brought Bill and Dr. Bob together (AA Comes of Age, pp. 66-67), and from this encounter grew AA. One of our many nonalcoholic friends, she played an important role in our beginnings and maintained throughout her life her affection for and interest in Alcoholics Anonymous.
