This Business of Humility

ONE OF THE most difficult concepts in the program for me to grasp was this business of humility. To begin with, I had a natural aversion to the word, for it reminded me of the squirming, awful feelings of humiliation that we alcoholics came to know so intimately. And that was certainly not a place I wished to visit again! But, meeting after meeting, I would hear those successful at staying sober quietly extol the virtues of this elusive quality. So I approached an old-timer and put my question to him: "Joe, just what is humility, and how do I get it?"
