All at Sea

WHEN I WAS offered a chance to join the staff of a big passenger ship and complete its world cruise, I was both excited and terribly nervous. A major part of my job would be serving as an official host at receptions and other ship-sponsored social functions, which numbered as many as three a day. My AA sponsor seemed to think I could weather the sea of booze that would be washing around me. But the idea of being away from my home groups for two months was more troubling and saddening than I could have imagined. Two months without the support and comfort of many friends and familiar faces!
