It Works Just Fine. . .

ABOUT TWELVE years ago, I was given a gift--the fellowship and the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. As an extremely intelligent person (so I thought at the time), I analyzed this gift, and agreed that it was a good program--for those who might need it. It was just not for me, I decided. I arrived at this conclusion after reading the Big Book; I not only got thirsty, I even wanted to rewrite the book. The Twelve Steps and Traditions and the Preamble, the things that apparently ran this organization, were far removed from any organizational plans I had ever known. In general, they could not do the job, and the program simply could not function very long.
