Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

THE DIRECTOR of a nationally known alcoholism treatment center was lecturing to a convention of physicians. "Most doctors dislike diagnosing their patients as alcoholics," he said, "especially if the drinkers are prominent in the community or are national celebrities. By the time these people get to our clinic, they've had so many gastrointestinal X rays that they're hooked on barium."
