Once Over Lightly

Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

HE MADE QUITE A MISTAKE, as did the problem drinker that N. R. of Ontario tells about. The guy had sworn off booze as a New Year's resolution, but then found he couldn't get to sleep until the wee hours of the morning. As a result, he was always late for work and chronically exhausted. In desperation one night, he had several stiff drinks, and they worked like a charm. He went right to sleep and awoke at dawn. After a leisurely shower and breakfast, he arrived at work fifteen minutes early.
