Being Loved Is a 'Want'

What we <emphasis type="underline">need</emphasis> is the ability to love other people

I WENT TO a couple of psychiatrists prior to coming to AA, and I bewailed and bemoaned the fact that I was unloved. I berated my parents for not loving me as a kid and thereby screwing me up. Those doctors commiserated with me and said that they certainly understood why I used alcohol and that my behavior was appropriate under the circumstances. I went to those people because I believed I needed approval, and I was willing to pay for it. I got exactly what I paid for.
