An Environment for Change

WHEN I FIRST came to Alcoholics Anonymous, I had been going to Al-Anon for eight months. I was married to a practicing alcoholic, and my drinking didn't seem as bad as his; it took a while for me to see my own problem. The first thing I admitted to was a problem with pills. A week later, I said I was an alcoholic. Two years and six months later--four dry dates later--I accepted my addiction. I didn't get here by being the sweet little housewife and mother I thought I was. I got here by abusing alcohol, tranquilizers, and amphetamines almost to the point of death.
