Give and Take

I ATTENDED a meeting one night during my first year in AA, where the subject of sponsoring came up. Until then, I had been telling my troubles to anybody who would listen to me. We were told at this meeting to pick another member for a sponsor, but I could not make up my mind whom to ask. However, a man with five years' sobriety decided that he would take me under his wing. Although I cared little for this man, I did not argue with him. At that time, I didn't think that sponsoring was any big deal.
