Newborn Mother

"Hi, mom!" There was a time in my life when I no longer heard those words. No time. No time to write, talk, baby-sit. Drink and job took the hours away. If my birthday was forgotten or a command to come to dinner ignored, self-pity would abound. I didn't realize the visits had stopped because my children could not bear to see their mother being so obnoxious.
