No toast without bread

AA came to me in an Air Force hospital near Munich, West Germany, in 1954. The transition from a down-and-out--and nearly out of the Air Force--drunk to a sane, sober individual was not unlike the rebirth many others have experienced. It happened to me because another AA "gave it away." But a new member sometimes develops a dependence on another individual, perhaps his or her sponsor. I believe we should never pin all our dependence or faith on any human being, even the best and wisest in the world. There are a lot of nice things you can do with sand, but do not try building a house on it.
