Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery

FROM NEW YORK, N. S. tells of a dinner she attended where the people at her table were discussing a former heavy drinker, referring to him as a "reformed alcoholic." She spoke up, stating that the man was not a "reformed" but a "recovered" alcoholic, to which one of the other diners responded, "Sounds as though he's been reupholstered."
