Growing Into Sobriety

When she got to AA she was twenty-seven going on thirteen

WHEN I SOBERED up, I was only twenty-seven, going on thirteen. I was filled with hostility and anger. I thought I was too young to stop drinking, and I certainly couldn't envision going without a drink (or at least a good drunk) for the rest of my life. The older AAs thought I was cute, but I felt anything but that. I hurt, and I fought, and I rebelled. I refused to work the program. I talked about a Higher Power, yet I didn't really feel one, except on a surface level.
