Hiding Behind the Slogans
WHEN I FIRST got into AA, I picked up all of the cliches and slogans. Whenever someone needed help, I would repeal a cliche so people would think I was doing better than I really was. At that time, AA was a joke to me. I didn't need it. I was twenty years old, and I wasn't ready to quit being miserable. I then did what an alcoholic does best--I got drunk. But I still went to AA once in a while to try and con the groups.
