FOR EIGHT and a half years, I had been working the principles of this program to the best of my ability, and life was good. I had enjoyed five years of institutional work; I had told my story hundreds of times from podiums all over the country; my amends were finished; and I was seeing the promises of the Big Book's "A Vision for You" unfold in my life. It was in no way a problem-free life, but I wasn't running or avoiding, and life was good and full.
