I am moved to write by D. R.'s letter. His concern is undoubtedly with our First and Third Traditions when he wonders about drug addicts in AA. Many of us have problems other than alcohol--marital, spiritual, financial, medical. However, the abuse of alcohol remains our common denominator, and a desire to quit drinking is our only membership requirement. Does it not follow that anyone, regardless of his primary drug of choice, who desires to quit drinking is a member if he says so? The Traditions don't even say "alcoholic."
