Too Much Isn't Always Enough

I often think about the alcoholic wanting to find the "easier, softer way." I wonder if alcoholics invented microwave ovens, self-cleaning ovens, and fingerprint-proof refrigerator doors. Nonstick cookware and no-wax floors. I know I bought them all. And the compulsiveness of the alcoholic! Those things were never enough. Pressure cookers, waffle irons, toaster ovens, juicers, and blenders. When we do something, we do it in a big way--all or nothing. I collected coupons, rubber bands, ink pens, record and photograph albums, magazines, wine bottles, coffee mugs, and pills. Once, I even collected empty beer cans.
