I was a low-bottom, gutter drunk, who had to suffer several episodes of DTs, three major convulsions, and a cardiac arrest before I asked AA for help. I had lost a lot of money, my wife, and my kids, and I could not work. I had no self-respect, no concept of love. I thought the idea of God was just witchcraft. I can remember only a small part of my past life, but I thank God for all of it--because that is what it took to get me to AA.
