In defense of 'special groups'
In regard to L. C.'s letter--I came into AA in 1971 came out of the closet in 1976. All those first years were spent attending straight AA meetings. There was no gay AA in Portland and little in other towns. In 1976 in Vancouver, British Columbia, I went to my second gay AA meeting, and for the first time in my life (at fifty-one), I told a group of people that I was gay.
