Running Sober

CONSIDERING the chilly, gloomy atmosphere at 6:00 AM in a rough parking lot far out in one of Hong Kong's country parks, there were some surprisingly cheerful greetings zipping back and forth. It was the day of the 1982 Coast of China Marathon, and everyone who had made the long journey from downtown Kowloon and Hong Kong Island was excited about the race. But there was special electricity among the "secret seven" who had taken up running and sobriety at about the same stage of their lives.
