First, he was a loner. Then, he played duets with booze. Finally, with AA and sobriety, he became part of the human race

MY FIRST memory as a child was being carried to center stage in a wicker basket. I was the baby in a comedy sketch being performed by a group of diverse actors--song and dance people, con artists, musicians, and assorted carnival types--that included my parents. We moved from town to town as part of a now vanished phenomenon called a traveling tent show.
