Care Package

His Christmas gift--the grace to accept help gladly

IT WAS AN extremely difficult situation. We alcoholics seem to know more about extremes than anyone. On Christmas Eve, my family and I had nothing but some canned goods we'd picked up from a church, and we tried to remain grateful for that. We were temporary transplants from the States to Winnipeg, Manitoba, running out of funds, with no car, very few of life's conveniences, and four under-teen children. I kept asking myself how anyone six years sober could get himself and his family into such a mess.
