A third chance at life

I could really identify with the writer of the article "Withdrawal" in the September 1982 issue. I first came to AA in June 1974, feeling that I was different from everyone else. I gave lip service to the Steps and Traditions for the next seven years, knowing in my heart that none of this applied to me. Many things happened while I was "around" AA at this time. I lost my father, separated from my wife and children, lost my job, and went into personal bankruptcy. All of this happened in a five-month period after six years of so-called sobriety. AA friends watched me closely, and the pats on the back were feeling good.
