WHEN I CAME into the AA program, I spent the first six months rewriting the Preamble and the Steps and taking everyone else's inventory. I didn't pick up a drink, but I wasn't very happy or doing very well. My sponsor was wise and patient and let me flounder just enough to get uncomfortable. Then, she brought in her big guns: "It's not working for you."
