Going Down the Tube

TELEVISION meant little to me during my active alcoholism, but it began to play a significant role in my life after I joined AA, two years ago. At first, watching TV provided welcome distraction when I wasn't at work or a meeting. Weeks later, when temptation had faded and distraction was no longer necessary, I continued to spend most of my free time in front of my set. Television had now become--so I thought--refreshing entertainment; with the cobwebs gone from my brain for the first time in years, I was able to follow plots, appreciate humor, and assimilate information. Months passed before I realized the true reason for my heavy viewing.
