Blessing in Disguise

An AA baby helped her shake off the poor-me syndrome

THERE IS a cliché that goes: "---- is enough to drive me to drink." The blank can be filled in with anything--my wife, my husband, my job, the state of the nation, the price of Swiss cheese--since an alcoholic will use any excuse to drink. In my case, a new baby was always a good excuse. "Poor me," I would cry along with the baby, and before I knew it, I was pouring me, one after the other.
