Honest Disbelievers

FREQUENTLY at meetings, the discussions that develop around the topics of prayer and spirituality can leave sincerely atheist members feeling that they are second-class members of our Fellowship. I know that I need to remember--and I often forget--where I came from. A great number of us were atheists or nonbelievers of one kind or another. Even if we have now come to believe in God, it seems that God in His wisdom wants AA to work for the few still unable to believe--provided that they are honest or true to themselves. Remembering my own journey helps in encouraging the newcomer who also has problems with faith.
