Three-part gossip test
The other night, a newcomer complained about folks taking her inventory. She was obviously hurt by the gossip. I was reminded of something my sponsor suggested to me when I first arrived. "If you're going to talk about someone, ask yourself three questions. Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? If you can't answer yes to all three, remain silent."
