The Flip Side of Ego

AT A RECENT speaker meeting, I had the opportunity to hear my sponsor's story for the first time. In the course of sharing his strength and hope, he made the comment that self-pity was actually a subtle form of egotism. Like a bell's clapper at the tug of a rope, this statement hit home to me. I have been shamefully guilty of egotism every time I feel sorry for myself. You know how it is: "Oh, poor me! Twenty-six years old, and I'm just now starting college," or "Poor, poor me--my wife and my family never trust me anymore."
