Sense and nonsense on the road to recovery
SPEAKING OF WATER, M. M. of Illinois sent an anecdote about a farmer in Italy who was digging a well. Near the bottom, he discovered something that made him rush for pen and paper and write to the curator of a museum in Rome. "Dear sir," he wrote. "I think I've found part of an ancient house. It's a piece of wood marked 'II x IV.'"
